Happy birthday, dear Cancer folk!
Hard and crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside… a bit of a mystery to the casual observer. Cancers, like other water signs, possess an extremely sensitive and emotional psyche; they tend to throw up a tough facade to protect this but are often misunderstood as a result. Cancers are deeply devoted parents and mates, and will fight to the end to protect their home and loved ones.
Cancer is a cardinal, or initiating, sign but Cancer expresses self-motivation when inspired (or infuriated) by outside influences. Their cardinal strengths emerge when they spurn the advice of others and set out on a task alone.
The sun travels through Cancer at the beginning of summer, starting this year on June 21st until July 22nd, when it crosses into Leo. It’s proving to be quite an active month:
- On June 21st, the summer solstice, Mars and Venus meet up for the second time this year in Taurus
- In Cancer this year we have two new moons, sometimes referred to in almanacs as a Pink Moon (the second Full Moon in a month is a Blue Moon)
- There will be a total solar eclipse on July 22nd, notable because this is the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century. It will occur at 29 degrees Cancer, on the anaretic degree and the last day the sun is in the sign.
