A Conversation with the Pisces Moon
After reading Jo Tracey’s emotional overdraft post on Saturday, I decided to cut my overly anxious, poverty-complex-riddled Virgo 2nd house a break and book a massage for myself. Of course, it didn’t involve spending new money- I had a credit there already that I needed to use- but the act of calling and making the appointment was a small victory in itself. I think I may be beyond emotional overdrafts and into emotional credit counseling territory. I did make sure to cram the appointment in yesterday morning, while the Pisces moon was void of course and restorative things would be a little more helpful.
Lying there on the table, being kneaded like bread dough, I finally relaxed enough to get my brain to slow its usual whirling. So I decided to try something that I learned from Havi, when she had a conversation with her arms. The Pisces Moon and I have a weird relationship already, so I thought it might be useful if we had a little talk.
Moon in Pisces people are imaginative, compassionate, artistic, and romantic. They’re idealists. They feel things more strongly than most other people and get carried away with their emotions a lot- at least on the inside; many grow a tough exterior to compensate for this. Jo Tracey wrote a great post about the Pisces moon recently also. During the time of the month when the moon crosses through Pisces, we all get a little more like this.
A little backstory: every guy I’ve ever dated, except my ex-husband and my SO now (both are Gemini Moons), has had a Pisces moon. Almost every close male friend I’ve had has one too; there’s only one that doesn’t, and our composite moon is in… Pisces.
So obviously it has something to tell me, this swirly, idealistic, emotional whirlpool of a moon.
Me: Hey Pisces moon, you obviously have something to tell me. You show up in so many of my people it doesn’t even shock me anymore. So what do you have that I need?
Pisces Moon: You need to learn how emotions work. You can’t go your whole life being afraid of the water; you have to get in eventually.
Me: Can I get some better role models then? What’s a functional Pisces moon even supposed to be like?
Pisces Moon: You are getting them. Pisces can’t help but feel everything. That’s the point. It’s what you need to learn how to do.
Me: But I have a Taurus moon. I crave security, not emotional release.
Pisces Moon: It’s not about what you can do now, it’s what you need to learn how to do. You just don’t want to pay attention. Look, you were bombarded with a bunch of Pisces moon people and you still couldn’t catch on, so we sent one you couldn’t ignore.
Me: What? You mean [my SO, a Pisces sun/moon rising]? He has a Gemini moon.
Pisces Moon: That’s just so you can understand a little better. The moon isn’t the point.
Me: So the moon… uh, you, are just the carrier? Then it’s not about the Pisces moon for me, it’s just plain Pisces.
Pisces: See, now you’re getting it.
Me: But I don’t have any Pisces at all.
Pisces: No, but you have 12th house.
Me: My node and Nessus… but that’s in Cancer, not Pisces. Is the house more important?
Pisces: It is for now. What do you always tell people about Cancer?
Me: “Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside.”
Pisces: Ok, good. Well, you already have the crunchy part covered, so you’re not ready to work on that yet. You have to get the middle part down first before you can put the shell on; otherwise you’re just empty inside.
Me: So you’re my node, then? I really am losing my mind. What do I need to know about Pisces?
North Node: Pisces is naked. It’s exposed, it can’t hide under layers. You have to stop hiding from stuff that hurts and get a little more naked.
Me: I’m half-naked and being worked to death facedown on a massage table. Does that count?
North Node: Well, you’re off to a good start, at least.

Just love it. Absolutely love it. I can’t be more specific than that- my Pisces Moon won’t allow it

Jo Tracey´s last blog ..The Emotional Overdraft
LOL, you’re right! we do sound alike! lol, great post! I’ve got a 10th house Chiron in Pisces opposing Pluto in the 4th. I have a very hard time dealing with any feelings of exposure/vulnerability, it just makes you feel so “naked” and unprotected, like a Hermit Crab without a new shell.
But, when I do open up, it’s hard to deny that there is compassion and love in the world, you just have to expose yourself to it, which is hard to do, lol. ^_^ That’s the sweet Pisces Moon that everyone loves.
Shannon, your words have a very nice healing feel to them. Very intuitively rich blog!
Wow. This is very, very cool.
Nice dialogue. I loved that you let us in on it. And I’m kind of weirded out by the fact that you have posters of my positive and negative traits, but will try to remember that oh right it’s not about me (over-sensitive pisces here).
Really enjoyed getting to peek at your internal conversation!
Hooray Havi! I’ve been thinking about this ever since you wrote that post, but I only now worked up the nerves to seriously do it.
And yes, thank Flickr for the weird picture- my Pisces “gentleman friend” got all ruffly about it too!
I came via Havi’s blog. “What’s a functional Pisces moon even supposed to be like?” made me laugh out loud. I don’t know anything about Pisces *moon* but I do know Pisces and I’m always wondering what it would be like to not always be swimming both ways.
Love the illustration. I’d say more but I’m feeling… [swimming away]

Hi Mahala!
A person’s moon in [whatever sign it's in] represents our habits, patterns, and needs… everything I run off to Fluent Self to work on! So I thought a Havi-style conversation would be very fitting for this.
As a Cancer-Aries-Pisces I feeling just a bit , ahem, naked here. Not to mention I was face down on a massage table a few hours ago, ie. really naked. I must crawl back into my shell and consider all this.
I love your blog. Will be back to visit often.

Oops, I’m actually a Cancer-Pisces-Aries, for those keeping score at home.

What a fun and creative and simultaneously instructive post. Thanks for sharing. Just found and bookmarked your site~ cheers!
Thanks Noelle, I appreciate your thoughts!
Delightful. As a Sun Cancer with Moon in Pisces square Saturn I really relate to the crunchy/chewy part. As a child I was always bursting into tears. At 66, it may be time to allow a few more chinks in the armor.
