Gently Used, Part 4 (Technical Edition)

This is the fourth, and hopefully last, installment of Gently Used for the summer. I made one more trip to Magus and collected some more niche titles; none of these are terribly hard to find online but it’s nice to be able to pull them off an actual shelf. Here’s what I found, in the order in which they’re stacked on my table:

The Ada Muir text is more of a monograph than a book; it’s part of a set also. The Donna Cunningham book I’ve read already, at the Seattle Metaphysical Library, but it’s good to have a reference copy on my own shelf. For the last two I was mostly interested in the second book, but my latent OCD tendencies compelled me to buy both since they were available. Orderly sets make the world go round! Besides, any book that discusses mathematical details of astrology has a welcome place on my shelf… even if that shelf is already groaning under the weight of my library.

  1. I love finding little astrological treasures from the 1920s and 1930s in second-hand bookstores–all that fun archaic language! The “period quality” just fascinates me.

So here’s a question for you, Shannon, since your knowledge of astrology books is obvious and impressive. Can you recommend a book about medieval astrology? Not the *techniques* of medieval astrology that some contemporary astrologers are using, but instead something more historically oriented, something that describes a little about how the folks of the middle ages viewed astrology. Thanks. :)

  2. Sarah, one book leaps to mind… but I can’t remember the title! I’ll find it Monday when I run over to the metaphysical library.
