My twin sons told me when they were only 4 years old that they were friends when they were "all grown up" i was at first confused, I hadn't mentioned reincarnation to them or around them, I wasn't even sure if I had an opinion on the subject at the time.... but after listening to them tell me all about their close friendship and how they worked together (one a prosecution lawyer the other a police officer)... i did soon have an opinion and that is that ties are not broken by death. The tie is strong, sometimes too strong for the other person to deal with. It can push you apart, you just never stop thinking of each other. You can't replace them no matter how hard you try. It's like you're together, yet your journey is apart, temporarily, until you can come together once and for all. It's so comforting (especially in times like these) to read, articulated, feelings I experience about a person in my life. We've been through many on and off phases, but we knew there was a connection the instant we sat down for the first time and spoke to one another. Even in the off times, it never really felt like it was "over", I used to say I always expect to end up with him but now I think it's that I always expect we will love each other. And I think that transcends traditional ideas of the labels, binds, expectations, restrictions put into the idea of "relationship." Anyway, we understand and complement each other in a deep way, I can't even begin to put it into words, I just feel it and I know.
