Uranus in the 4th: Here Comes the Moving Van… Again
I have almost no water in my chart, but I have a Uranus-Lilith-Venus conjunction (along with Juno and Vesta, for you asteroid junkies out there) in my fourth house.
The fourth house is, among a few other things, all about your home, how you feel about it, and how you tend to behave there. Uranus in the fourth often brings unusual taste in furnishings, a love of home electronics or gadgetry, and can represent frequent moves in early life. For me? Check, check, and check. I never know how to answer people when they ask me where I’m from; nowadays it just depends on my mood, or what kind of point I’m trying to make at the time. Here are some of the things that flit through my head when people ask: (swearing below the break)
- Well, my birth certificate says Seattle…
- Have you seen Bowling for Columbine? I grew up in Flint, don’t fuck with me.
- My crowning academic achievement was attending the same school for three years once.
- I had my own frequent flyer account at age eight. I had three well-worn ones by fourteen.
- I’m from everywhere; it just seems simpler that way.
It’s hard not to be cynical about it now, but I think it’s given me a unique perspective on things. Now when I move, I really sink into a place and learn it better than many locals in a year or so… I think this is because I somehow fear/know that I could be pushed to move on at some point, and I want to take the essence of it with me.
Venus-Uranus gives me a… well, I love weird things. I’m proud of having thrived in places other people find draining or dull, of leading lifestyles contrary to the prevailing tastes of my locale. I’ve been a occultic weirdo in the bible-belt Midwest, a classically-trained musician in the industrial wasteland of Michigan, a vegan in small-town Indiana, a recyclables-sorting, transit-loving bike commuter in angry, car-centered South Florida, and now a bachata-loving, arroz-con-gandules-cooking Miami transplant to the Cascadian rainforests. It’s the circle of life, Uranian-style.
(I don’t consider myself a Uranian in general, but my lifestyle definitely has the flavor.)
My home life (4th house) tends to uproot (Uranus) all at once- the residence, job, social structure, and often relationship will all overturn in rapid succession with little warning beforehand. Little warning to me, at least. I still haven’t gotten the hang of heeding the rumbling warnings of future home-life eruptions, even though I’m a lot better at dealing with the wreckage now. I have Jupiter cazimi and I always land on my feet!
It’s hard though, to be snapped back four thousand miles and have to reorient everything immediately. I’m back in Seattle now after thinking I was going to be settled in Florida full-time; the mundane details have mostly sorted themselves out, but I still have a “hangover effect” from working so hard to put down roots there, only to be back where I began, very unexpectedly. It feels like the National Geographic version of base jumping.
If you have the U-Haul edition of Uranus in the fourth, don’t lose heart; it’s important, though, to learn to use the stabilizing forces in other parts of your chart to compensate for the craziness that this can bring. Work that Saturn (planning) or Mercury (multitasking), tap into that Virgo for details or fire elements to just get it handled. Keep the faith!

Totally agree! I have 6 planets in water, and my only air is Aquarius on the IC/4th house cusp. The longest I’ve lived anywhere since age 13 is 4 years! It’s not like I ever intended to move this much, but my work opportunities haven’t ever remained in the same geographical area. It’s always been the one state, but lots of moving. It can be exhausting, but at least you start to develop a lot of difference experiences other people don’t have. It’s a unique perspective. Plus, I’m practically an expert at packing!
Hell-oh!
I don’t ‘get’ astrology yet – as in technically – but I have Uranus conjunct Jupiter in Cancer (my 10th) and my husband has Uranus conjunct Venus in Cancer (his 10th) and between us we’ve probably moved, and been moved by our parents before that, about 200 times and we’re in mid-late 50′s age. And sure looks like it ain’t goin’ stop yet: I personally have had 5 addresses in the last 12month! If you or anyone can explain this, I’d love to know if we are just gypsies/nomads or wtf?
@daffodil It is exhausting, but thankfully you sound like you’ve embraced the chaos. I’ll call you when I need advice on packing next time
@Sabina- The 4th house corresponds with Cancer (love of home and family), so it’s no surprise that and your hubby are experiencing a lot of the same effects as this. It does indeed bring out the gypsy! Are many of your moves career-driven (10th house) by chance?
I have a 4th House Uranus too. I got my first passport when I was less than a month old and have lived in several countries. I’ve managed to somewhat stay put in the South Florida area since 2000, but I have moved 4 in the past 10 years.
I don’t think it ever really lets up… I’ll be down in South Florida for a bit starting this Thursday, actually.
This placement does confer some great experiences, especially if you have Sagittarius or 9th house planets as well.
