Ask the Astrologer!

Gentle readers,

I’m getting more emails with questions lately, and more than a few of you have come to my site by typing questions into your search bar, so beginning today I’m going to start answering one or two astrology-related questions every Thursday. And so, onward! We’ll start with a short and sweet one:

Is your ascendant sign your moon sign?

Your ascendant is the sign that fell on the eastern horizon at the time and place you were born. Your moon sign is different- it’s the sign the moon was in when you were born. If you were born near moonrise, they might be the same, but they’re two separate pieces of information.

The ascendant sign describes your outlook- how you process incoming and outgoing information, how you interpret other people’s behavior, and how you behave outwardly as well. Your ascendant is the context you interpret your experiences through.

The moon sign describes your deepest needs, and what feeds you emotionally. Your habits and heartaches are filtered through the sign of your moon, and the ways you seek comfort correspond to the nature of the sign.

For a more thorough explanation, you can read my short tutorial on the sun, moon, and rising signs.
