On Thursdays I answer astrology questions I’ve received through email or the search bar. If you have a question, contact me and yours might be answered next!
I owe you a couple of these posts, so this one is extra-long to square us up. Keep sending your questions!
How does a planet transit the ascendant?
A planet transits the ascendant when it is in the same part of the sky as the far eastern horizon was when you were born. For example: when I was born the sign of Leo was to the east, and the 14th degree of Leo was right at the horizon- so my ascendant is at 14 Leo. Last Thursday, because Mars was at the 14th degree of Leo, it was transiting (moving across) my ascendant.
Any planet, asteroid, or other transiting point that comes to the same part of your chart as your ascendant is said to be transiting your ascendant. How long the transit lasts depends on how fast that planet or point moves. The moon and planets closer to the sun move fairly quickly, while outer planets like Neptune and Pluto move very slowly.
How long are moon transits?
The moon moves about 13 degrees every day (360 degrees ÷ 28 days to orbit the earth = 12.8 degrees/day), so moon transits to the various points in your chart only last a few hours. Since the moon makes a full tour of your chart about every 28 days, every possible transit to each of your planets (conjunctions, trines, squares, etc.) is made by the moon every month. The transiting moon activates your full range of potential experiences in a small way every month of your life, making moon transits significant as a whole even though each individual transit is short.
How do I talk to a Taurus moon?
The moon is about a person’s habits, needs, emotions, and what makes them feel comfortable. Taurus is a fixed earth sign, so Taurus moon people are grounded in their emotions- not crying at the drop of a hat, and slow to react to things in an emotional way (wave that red flag at the bull enough times, though, and you will provoke a definite response eventually). Taurus moon people are all about bon vivant in their own way- they might love good food, good wine, a fine cigar, perfumes, art that pleases the senses, beautiful flowers and gardens, nature views, great sex… and they love any or all of these things purely for their own sake. Food is good because it comes from the dirt and it’s good; trees are lovely because they grow in the ground and that’s how it should be.
Get them talking about what beautiful pleasure they love, however small, and let the conversation go from there.
What are astrological signs of a deep soul bond with another person?
This is a post or even a book of its own, but I’ll tick off a few of the things I look for:
- Conjunctions between one person’s lunar nodes and various points in the other person’s chart
- Aspects from one person’s Saturn to the other person’s planets
- Conjunctions to the sun by the other person’s planets or points
Node conjunctions of any kind are the most intense significators to me- my personal experiences and anecdotes from my clients bear this out- and Saturn contacts amplify that as well. Conjunctions are the most intense aspect, so I look for a preponderance of those in synastry (comparative) charts too. These soul bonds are not at all exclusive to lovers; they appear between friends, family members, casual acquaintances with whom you feel an instant connection, and even antagonists or enemies.
What’s your moon sign if you’re born at night?
Your moon sign is determined by what zodiac sign the moon was traveling in when you were born, so the time of day doesn’t directly affect that. You can check a copy of your birth chart to find out your moon sign.
