It’s Friday, Venus has turned retrograde for the next six weeks, and you need to chill out. And this last week was rent week (or maybe your house payment if you do the mortgage thing), so not spending money would be even better. Today I have for you a snack-sized list of audios (some downloads, some in players) that won’t cost you a thing. And if you don’t like any of these, I’ll refund every bit of the money you spent on them.
1. Recoding Your Mind
It’s no secret that I’m a big flag-waver for Havi Brooks’ style of figuring your stuff out, and I love this little mp3 she made a while back. This recording is a nice way to gently reorient your thinking, while getting super relaxed. This is an especially nice guided relaxation for techie-type people. It’s the second item on her very generous Free Stuff page.
2. Sound Shifts Stuff
These are great. And if that wasn’t enough, Fabeku is pretty much the nicest guy I know. Like to everyone, all the time. But not in a fakey way; the dude is for real. It’s totally amazing. You will need to hop on his mailing list to get this one, but you get the better end of this trade by far.
3. Palo!
These may not be the most calming tracks ever, but you will definitely be less stressed after listening to them. PALO! is an Afro-Cuban funk band from Miami, and their website has a bunch of full tracks on it- just let the player run in a tab. Warning: may induce wild dancing.
4. The Alder Bough
I played the bagpipes in high school, and I play the shakuhachi. So I love the hell out of this album because of the unlikely combination (c’mon… Celtic music on Japanese instruments?) plus it’s a good relaxation album. There’s a built-in audio player on the page, so you can listen to almost all the tracks for free. Yay.
Oh, and…
If you want to see what I spend all of my time listening to, you can check out my last.fm player. I can’t guarantee it’s your kind of thing (unless you’re a new-waver with a taste for bachata and downtempo), but think of it as poking through my CD collection. Enjoy!
